Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolor Review

Hello Beautiful Ones!

Can you feel the holiday spirit yet?! I'm definitely starting to feel it! The spirit of the season isn't the only thing in the air right now. I'm talking about the cold of course! And something about winter weather always has me reaching for lipsticks over my beloved glosses. So today I'm reviewing what I would describe as a bit of a gloss/lipstick hybrid: the Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolor in the shade HD Devotion.

This is one of those products that I had to walk past the display several times before I finally decided to pick one up. So by the time I finally decided to grab one my choice of colors was pretty limited as the display was definitely very picked over, but better late than never right?! Why the hesitation to try this you ask? Confession: I've never been a big fan of matte lip colors. Maybe it's because I love glosses so much, who knows. But this one just kept grabbing my attention so I decided to give in (I have no willpower as we've established). Also, I have to say that the packaging really sold me here. It's just so sleek and cute!

So what is this exactly? According to Revlon it is a "lightweight, high definition velvety matte color" they also say that it is moisturizing and 100% wax-free. I think that my biggest issue with matte colors in the past have been that they not only dry out my lips, but then seem to cake onto the dry patches. So the idea of a moisturizing matte color sounds pretty good to me. But wait, is it a lipstick or a gloss? Revlon doesn't seem too bothered about labeling it so neither am I.

The first thing I noticed when I first put this on is that it does have a very buttery texture. The one thing that I think the packaging fails on is the applicator. As you can see in the above photo it has a round tip and does not make it very easy to get in the corners. There's just something about it that is big and clunky. But I can live with it. The color payoff here is very good. You barely need a coat or two for good coverage. I like the color, it's a nice rosy pink.

Finally, how does this wear? Great! I love how buttery and moisturizing it feels on my lips. The cold air always sucks all of the moisture out of my skin, so anything with moisturizing properties is greatly appreciated. I wouldn't necessarily call this a true matte, there is a tiny bit shine to it. That might be why I like it so much. However, it still gives you a nice matte look. This is not super longwearing (although it doesn't claim to be), in that way I would say it is more like a gloss. There is some transfer when you are eating or drinking, but I would say it wears off gracefully. It just sort of wears off naturally without patching.

My final verdict? I really like this one! You can get it for about $8 at your local drugstore. Maybe just maybe I'll be a matte lip girl from now on haha! Let me know if you've tried this one! Happy Holidays to you all, may they be sparkly and bright. <3

New from Revlon at the Drugstore

Hello Beautiful Ones!

There are a lot of lovely new things at the drugstore right now. Without really doing it on purpose, I realised that I have recently picked up quite a few new goodies from Revlon so I thought I would give you a little first impressions/mini review (also bonus points to me for picking colors that all look good together, that was complete accident I swear!).

Revlon Photoready Eye Art in Fuschia Flash- $9.99
Even though I've been dying to get my hands on one of these I actually almost walked by the display at Ulta because in my head I was thinking that they were the nail art duos instead. The packaging for the eye art is almost identical to their nail duos, but I don't mind. I like how you can really see the colors through the glass packaging. The display was pretty picked over so I ended up getting the color Fuschia Flash, which is not necessarily I color I would normally gravitate towards for eyes but it has kind of won me over. Revlon is marketing that these can be used for lid, line, and lash. One one end you get a shimmer (light pink) and on the other end you get glitter (bright fuschia). So far I have gotten a lot more use out of the shimmer. This is a really gorgeous pink that catches the light really beautifully. I find the glitter a little chunky and definitely more appropriate for a big night out or a holiday party. I really like the lasting power of this product and I feel like it could be really versatile. The applicators are also pretty good, the shimmer side is larger making it easy to apply to the lid and the glitter side has a small thin brush (almost like a lip brush) that makes it easy to line. I remember wearing liquid eye shadow when I was younger, so this product makes me feel a little nostalgic.

Revlon Photoready Kajal Matte Eye Pencil in Matte Charcoal- $9.99
Kajal is having a major moment in beauty right now (I might be doing a Kajal liner post in the near future). Of all the Kajal eyeliners I've tried, I think that this one is one of the best in terms of staying power. I wore it on my lower lash line during a night out recently and it held up pretty well. I also like that it's a thin pencil. As with most Kajal liners it glides on really smoothly. I almost always pick up eyeliners in black, but since they were all out of the coal color I went with charcoal and I really like it (the lesson here is to try new things). It's a great grey liner to have in your collection. The pencil also comes with a sponge smudger on the other end which can always come in handy.

Revlon Ultra HD Lip Lacquer in HD Garnet- $7.99
I always think to myself that I really don't need another lip gloss (which is true), but I had been hearing a lot of buzz on the blog-o-sphere about this one so I decided to give it a shot and I'm really glad I did. First of all, this gloss has fantastic coverage. I would describe it as sort of a gloss/liquid lipstick hybrid. It's really light and shiny like a gloss, while still having great coverage and pigmentation like a lipstick. Also, the packaging is sleek and simple with a cute little diamond on the top of the lid. I like the thin brush applicator, it makes it easier to get the color exactly where you want it. Once again, this is not a color I would normally pick but for some reason I just grabbed for it when I saw it on the shelf. I feel like it's a totally wearable deep fuchsia that is perfect for the winter.

I hope you enjoyed this little mini revlon haul! Let me know if you have tried any of these.

July Favorites!

Hello Beautiful Ones!

Another month and another post full of the things I'm loving lately. The summer months are very quickly flying by (we're already 6 days into August and I honestly don't even know how that happened). There will be leaves falling and football games being played before we know it (please don't leave me summer sun!). Fortunately for me, there's still a little summer left! Now let's get to the favorites:

Makeup & Beauty

This brush has been a long time favorite of mine. I love that it is so big and fluffy. I use it for both blush and powder foundation. Although, it is well used it has still held up well. I also just love the sleek love of the clear handle (even though that has nothing to do with the usefulness).

Can I just start by saying that the packaging on this one is stunning. Seriously, can we all just take a minute to enjoy the chic-ness? I love the sleek square bottle that fits easily in my purse and the applicator that makes touch-ups easy even if you don't have a mirror handy. Now on to the actual product: I love a good gloss, but especially one that will stay on my lips for more than a few minutes. This one is longwearing and super moisturizing, just as advertised. Also, it's not too sticky. A definite must have! I picked up the shade London Posh, which is kind of a peachy nude. Here is a color swatch:

I am always looking for a good brow pencil, especially from the drugstore because I'm all about the bargain! Lately I've really been enjoying this one from Maybelline. I like that it's long wearing, I can put it on in the morning and then not worry about it all day. I also love that the pencil itself is very small and thin so you can get into those little fine places on your brow. My only complaint would be that I don't find the little plastic comb on the end of the wand all that helpful, but it's not a big deal I just use another brow brush. At the end of the day it's totally worth the price!

Milani Baked Bronzer in 04 Glow- $9

I'm going to be honest with you, I feel like I'm still trying to get the hang of bronzer. But I've been using this one lately to add a little extra glow and some very simple contouring. As you can see in the picture it comes with a cute little brush that fits in the compact under the bronzer which is handy for traveling but when I'm at home I usually use a Kabuki brush to apply it. Here's a color swatch:

e.l.f. Essentials All Over Color Stick in Persimmon- $1

I know I've talked about this one before, but I just can't get enough of it. This is a small little stick of color that can be applied all over your face, eyes, and lips. I've used this on my eyelids for a pretty shimmer on light makeup days, but lately I've been using it on my face daily as a highlighter. It's just a really pretty light shimmer that can be used for basic contouring. Here's the color swatch:

I picked up this baked eyeshadow at ULTA a few months ago because it was on sale and since then I've gotten a lot of use out of it. I really love wearing this with a little liner and mascara on my lighter makeup days for a really natural and pretty look. I sweep the lighter color all over my lid and then use the darker side for the outer corner of my eye and the crease. It wears really well all day long. Here's a swatch of the colors:

I've said this before, but I just love buying mascara in travel sizes because mascara goes bad so quickly all you really need is a small one and that way you can save yourself some cash. This one just goes on really easily with very few clumps and really opens up my eyes. As you can see I've used this one so much the writing has started to rub off the bottle (the ultimate sign of a beloved product). This is a must-have!

Again, I know I've talked about this one before but it's still one of my all time favorite products. I use this all the time when I'm dealing with any kind of redness whether it's from breakouts, a sunburn, or just irritated skin. Smoothing this over your problem areas before you put on your foundation will make the redness easier to cover up. You can use it as an all over face primer or just on the red spots. Definite lifesaver!

Music & T.V.

This month I thought I'd throw in a few bonus favorites for you guys! So here are the things I couldn't stop listening to and watching this month:

Music

My taste in music is a little all over the board. This month I'm all about boys with smart lyrics. There are two new albums that I haven't stopped playing this month.
  1. In the Lonely Hour by Sam Smith
  2. X (Multiply) by Ed Sheeran

Seriously, both of those albums just make me feel so many feelings.

There's also a single that I can't stop playing. It's a country song, but even if you don't like country I think you should seriously give it a try because the lyrics are brilliant. It's A Guy Walks Into a Bar by Tyler Farr. I was just hooked after hearing the first 30 seconds.

T.V.

This month I've been all about an old summer T.V. favorite and a brand new guilty pleasure. Actually these are both guilty pleasures (whoops)!

The first is my all time summer fave: Big Brother. I know it's ridiculous, but that's what I love about it. If you aren't familiar with Big Brother it's a reality show that drops strangers into a house for an entire summer to compete for a half million dollars, oh and every single thing they do is recorded by cameras. You can guarantee that they all lose their minds and brilliant drama ensues.

My new guilty pleasure is Reckless. This is a law drama set in North Carolina. And it's chock full of soapy goodness and relationship drama. I'm all over this one. In my opinion good summer time dramas are hard to come by, but this one is pretty darn good.

Sorry this post got so long! Lots of lovely July things to talk about. I hope you all had a fantastic July. I can't wait to see what August has in store for all of us. Let me know what you all have been loving this last month.

XO- Brittney
